A study on the description and morphological issues of Korean phraseological dictionary 

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the extraction of phraseological unit headwords and some issues on the lexicographical description from the perspective of Korean morphology. The corpus-assisted methodology in lexicography have provided empirical evidence for the extraction and description of phraseological units of meaning. However, Korean lexicography have tended to place a limitation on discussion about how to create the thorough-going semantic unit dictionary. In this paper, using the corpus data and two dictionaries, i.e. Real-life Korean for Korean learners - Practical phrases that are not in the dictionary and Naver Everyday life Korean dictionary, 200 entries of different morphological types were collected and classified and then analysed in order to discuss the lexicographical principle of the phraseological unit dictionary. The analysis indicates more function-oriented paradigm to be introduced into corpus based Korean lexicography as well as showing the potential for a more sophisticated macrostructure and microstructure, considering Korean morphological characteristics.
