초록

방언학 연구에서 방언 분포와 변화를 분석하는 일은 방언의 실체를 규명하기 위한 중요한 과정이다. 하지만 과거 많은 연구에서 주로 언어의 사적 변천 과정과 관련해서 살펴보려고 한 것은 연구 목표를 너무 좁게 설정한 것으로 보인다. 오히려 방언의 분포와 변화는 그 배경에 존재하는 다양한 지리적 상황과 사회적 배경 및 문화적 정보가 얽혀 있는 복잡한 근거와 이유가 있다고 인식해야만 할 것이다. 이 점에 있어서 방언학 분야의 연구가 언어의 사적 변천을 해명하기 위한 연구로만 한정하기에는 아쉬운 점이 많다. 그런 까닭에 방언학 연구가 특정의 목적에 초점을 두고 있는 보조 학문적인 분야가 아니라 언어와 지리 공간의 관계성, 언어와 사회적인 현상과의 관련성, 언어와 문화적인 기반과의 연관성을 고려하면서 분석하고 이를 통해서 인간의 존재 의미를 더욱 심층적으로 해명할 수 있는 연구 분야임을 내세울 필요가 있다. 이를 위해서는 여러 가지 관점을 열어두고 다양한 연구 방법론을 찾아야 한다. 그래야만 방언학 연구의 지평을 넓힐 수 있는 가능성은 높아질 수 있을 것이다. 이 논문은 그러한 연구 영역을 확장할 가능성을 타진해보자는 노력의 일환으로 문화방언학 분야의 설정을 위해 필요한 전제와 기반을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 기존의 방언학 연구에서 적어도 문화와의 관련성을 고려할 수 있는 업적을 분석해보면서 그 가능성을 모색하고자 한다.

Abstract

The fact that we are always trying to find the process of language's private transformation in dialect distribution seems to be a result of very specificizing purposes. Rather, the distribution and change of dialect would have to be perceived as having complex grounds and systems intertwined with the various geographical, social and cultural information present in the background. In this regard, it is regrettable that research in the field of linguistic geography can limit its meaning only to research to explain the historical changes of language. Therefore, it is necessary to keep in mind that language geography is not an area focused on a specific purpose, but a field of research that can be analyzed in a more in-depth way to explain the meaning of human existence by keeping in mind the relationship between language and geographical space, the connection between language and social phenomena, and the connection between language and cultural foundations. To do this, it is necessary to open up various perspectives and explore various research methodologies. Only then will the possibility of broadening the horizons of dialectical research be increased. I think this paper is only a humble effort to open up the possibility of expanding such horizons. However, I hope that this will be a stimulus and that achievements will be made that can further expand the field of dialectology research.
